The most common reason for daytime fatigue is insufficient sleep at night. Maybe you don’t sleep enough, or you suffer from some sleep disorder. You should always find out the cause of insomnia.

Insomnia is a common problem in the population. Insomnia as a single temporary symptom does not require examinations. If insomnia continues for several weeks, and causes suffering or hinders your daytime performance, you should contact healthcare services.

The examination and treatment of insomnia starts with primary health care. In accordance with the operating model of the insomnia treatment path, your insomnia symptom will be evaluated at the health center, and if you are diagnosed with a sleep disorder, treatment will be offered.

Insomnia as a symptom can also be related to various other diseases, therefore a careful initial assessment of insomnia is important. Insomnia should be distinguished from lack of sleep due to other reasons (e.g., life situation, hurry, health habits).

Prolonged sleep deprivation has harmful effects on metabolism, immune defense system, alertness, learning, emotion regulation and mood. Sleep deprivation can be caused by the insufficiency of sleep quantity or sleep quality.
